The National Institute of Technology-Tiruchi (NIT-T) will conduct a month-long internship programme during the summer vacation for faculties and students of 14 institutions in the State under Margdarshan scheme.

The project is a major initiative of MHRD to provide mentorship support to engineering institutions through Centrally funded technical institutes.

Two students and two faculties from each of the 14 institutions have been shortlisted to take part in the programme, slated to be held during the last week of May, with stipendiary component. A faculty is entitled to ₹10,000 and a student to ₹5,000. The participants, in turn, are required to share their experiences in their institutions to broad base the impact of learning.

The initiative, the MHRD believes, will serve the purpose of raising the levels of other engineering colleges in terms of quality of faculty, teaching methodology and curriculum, thereby enabling them to secure the approval of National Board of Accreditation.

Representatives of the mentor institutions, mostly comprising IITs and NITs, have undergone special training to gain a clear understanding of the NBA accreditation process. The NIT-T has been sanctioned by AICTE ₹30 lakh to carry out the project for three years.

The 14 mentee institutions comprise M.A.M. College of Engineering and Technology, Tiruchi; Saranathan College of Engineering, Tiruchi; Kings College of Engineering, Pudukottai; Pavai College of Technology, Namakkal; University College of Engineering, Anna University, Dindigul; Kumaraguru College of Technology, Coimbatore; Kongu Engineering College, Erode; National Engineering College, Thoothukudi; K.
