Construction of the eighth platform apace at Tiruchi railway junction.

The project is part of the end-to-end station redevelopment works currently under way at Tiruchi junction - a class 'A' station in the Southern Railway zone.

The new platform is being constructed to reduce waiting time for incoming trains at Tiruchi junction witnessing heavy movement especially during night hours and to decongest the main entrance. Railway officials said the length of the new platform under construction is 600 metres and would be in a position accommodate more than 24 broad gauge coaches. Works are apace with shelter having been provided at one spot in the upcoming new platform.

Officials say the target was to complete the project by June after which sanction from the Commissioner of Railway Safety, Southern Circle, Bengaluru, would be sought. This would be followed by signal linking and other works after which the new platform would be commissioned. This project alone is being executed at a cost of ₹7.20 crore. The new platform would benefit passengers coming from the Kallukuzhi second entry side and would decongest the main entrance’, said the officials.

Various works were being carried out under the station redevelopment project at the Tiruchi junction which includes improvements made to the subway; construction of a new portico at the junction; improvements to the main entry arch and resurfacing of the main entry road and improvements to booking office and reservation counter and landscaping arrangements.

The end-to-end redevelopment works were being executed at a cost of ₹ 27 crore to enhance facilities for the benefit of the travelling public.
