TRICHY: Overwhelmed with the patronage shown for the wall of happiness functioning on the Allithurai Road near Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital (MGMGH), the Trichy Corporation opened the second such facility in the city at Srirangam on Saturday.
The second wall of happiness is located close to the Srirangam Government Hospital and iconic Sri Ranganathaswamy temple.

The civic body insisted the residents to place their gently used products on the wall for enabling needy people to reuse them.

With as many as 18 shelves, the 15-foot-long wall of happiness has come up in ward number 3.

Since the city’s first wall of happiness is located close to the MGMGH, it attracted the attenders of patients belonging to underprivileged families to reuse the cloths placed in the wall, officials said that the location for the second wall of happiness was chosen in a similar manner.

“Mostly the gently used products are sold to scrap dealers or dumped along waste. But the reusable products in a good physical condition such as clothes, toys, and footwear can be placed in the wall which would help the financially downtrodden families to reuse the products,” said corporation commissioner N Ravichandran.

Close to 20,000 people have benefited from the city’s first wall of happiness established last year. Officials attributed the success of the initiative to the selection of the right location.
