CITY residents can expect tremendous growth in Tiruchy in the coming years. Oxford Economics, a leading research house, has listed Tiruchy as one of the fastest-growing cities in the world. The news of the city ranking eighth in the list of fastest-growing cities has brought cheer to several quarters. "We have achieved tremendous growth in various sectors. In fact, we are already an educational hub with several leading institutions of the country. We also have some of the best hospitals and our air-port is also world-class. There-fore, we were able to gain a prominent position because of the all-round development," said Dr M A Aleem.

City officials considered the ranking a great honour. "We will take more efforts to increase our city's position in the next survey" said Corporation Commissioner N Ravichandran. Industry also welcomed the development and suggested there should be more efforts to attract investors to the city "The listing of our city in international surveys or research will increase our outreach among the global community but this alone is not sufficient. We have to take more efforts to improve our infrastructure to impress those coming to invest. The survey showed we have the potential," said M Thangaraju, secretary,

Tiruchirappalli District Chamber of Commerce. S A Mubashir, joint secretary, Tiruchy Tourism Federation, said, "Tiruchy is already a heritage-rich and pilgrimage centre. The recent listing as one of the fastest-growing cities should bring more business houses and commercial establishments. This will definitely have a very positive effect on the travel industry. The listing of the city to such a scale will give encouragement to work towards progress."
