MHRD’s LEAP initiative for senior faculty members

National Institute of Technology - Tiruchi has teamed up with Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, and Indian Institute of Information Technology, Sri City, Andhra Pradesh, to conduct Leadership for Academicians Programme (LEAP) sponsored by Ministry of Human Resource Development, New Delhi.

The programme, a national initiative for leadership development in higher educational institutions, will be conducted from February 4-16 at NITT and from February 18-23 at NTU, with the objectives of integrating technical education into India's growth strategy.

The programme envisages equipping senior faculty members to take up leadership roles in existing and new institutions, consolidating best practices at national level, benchmark them with international practices, and eventually provide a structured approach for institutional transformation.

The senior faculties will be prepared for taking up leadership roles in IITs, NITs, IIITs and other institutions of national importance. During the training programme, they will be carrying out a project on chosen themes of institutional administration under the mentorship of experts from India and Singapore, Ganesan Kannabiran, Director, IIIT, Sri City, Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh, which is the organising partner, said in a press release.

The Director of NIT-T Mini Shaji Thomas and Director of Nanyang Centre for Public Administration, NTU, Singapore, are the other two programme directors. The programme will broadly cover nine themes: visioning, goal setting and strategising; teaching and learning; research and industry collaboration; people management; financial management; internationalisation and global positioning; project and operations management; and societal engagement.

The eligibility criteria constitute about eight years of experience as professor; three years of experience in administrative positions, impeccable integrity, high academic standing (about 30 'SCOPUS’ or equivalent publications, sponsored projects etc.), and preferable age of 55 years.

The last date for submission of online applications is December 5. The last date for receipt of hard copy applications is December 12.
