Fort station land to be given on lease

With a view to augmenting revenue, the railways has planned to give on lease a vast expanse of vacant land at Tiruchi Fort railway station for constructing a Multi-Functional Complex (MFC).

Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA), a statutory body under Ministry of Railways, has invited proposals from interested agencies for grant of lease of railway land at Tiruchi Fort and Gulbarga stations for a period of 45 years for development of the MFCs. Tiruchi Railway Division has handed over the land to the RLDA.

A railway official said the land is situated on the Thillai Nagar side of the Fort station. The statutory authority would identify the agency that fulfilled the eligibility conditions for the development of the MFC, a sort of a mall.

This is not the first time that the Tiruchi railway divisional authorities are handing over a piece of vacant land to the RLDA. About five acres of land close to Villupuram junction has been handed over to the RLDA for commercial development. The land has been leased to a private school.

Similarly, the entire area in front of Puducherry railway station is also proposed to be handed over to the RLDA. The process of handing over the land is in the final stage.
