Security measures up at Srirangam temple

The City Police will put in place elaborate security measures for the Vaikunta Ekadasi festival at Srirangam Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple which began on Friday with Thirunedunthandagam. The highlight of the festival is the opening of Paramapada Vaasal on December 18. The festival ends with Nammazhwar Moksham on December 28.

Anticipating a heavy turnout of devotees this year as well, the City Police have planned to deploy about 4,000 police personnel, including those to be drawn from other districts, on the day when the Paramapada Vaasal is opened.

A temporary police outpost which has been established inside the temple was inaugurated by Commissioner of Police A. Amalraj on Friday. The City Police have planned to install 60 cameras at vantage locations inside the temple complex. Besides, 20 CCTV cameras are to be installed along the four Uthira Veedhis. CCTV cameras are also to be installed at six new spots from Renga Renga Gopuram to Raja Gopuram.

Watch towers are to be erected at 11 places around the temple to check crimes and monitor public movement. Ten temporary parking lots have been identified around the temple for devotees to park their vehicles.
