NIT-T starts initiative for entrepreneurship

THE Director of the National Institute of Technology-Tiruchy (NIT-T), Mini Shaji Thomas, has highlighted the need to promote innovation and entrepreneur-ship in the context of India's growing economy. She was was speaking at the launch of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Programme' (IEDP) at the institution on Wednesday Thomas added there was a need to create an entrepreneurial mindset among graduates for which parents need to encourage their wards. The Centre for Entrepreneur-ship Development and Incubation (CEDI) is a 'Section 8' company promoted by NIT-T in association with Entrepreneur-ship Development and Innovation Institute (EDII), Chennai, to take up developmental activities at member colleges under IEDP

The workshop on Wednesday was attended by top management rep-resentatives from about 20 colleges across Tiruchy district and neighbouring areas. The incubation centre would provide the training programme for faculty and students of different institutions and colleges. The main aim of the programme is to create an entrepreneurship ecosystem in the dis-trict from the 2017-18 academic year. A hub institution would take up follow-up activities in member colleges registered with IEDP. The hub would execute programmes like top management orientation workshops, E&I cell development training, design. Participating colleges shall have access to the programme conducted in NIT-T over the next five years with CEDI creating a meaningful Impact on the legal ecosystem .

G Kannabiran, professor of management and CEDI director said within five years, CEDI would have created a meaningful impact on the local ecosystem. "Participating colleges shall have access to the programme conducted in NIT-T," Kannabiran said. Interested engineering or technology, arts or science and polytechnics may register with NIT-T for IEDP on or before Sep-tember 30. R Shiva Kumar, deputy director, EDI, said the year-long activities cover faculty and students of participating colleges. Some ac-tivities, including faculty development programmes, would be organised on the NIT-T campus, he added. The programme will be coordinated by Kannabiran and R Murugesan, associate profes-sor of humanities and social sci-ences, NIT-T.
