Image result for iim trichyThe Indian Institute of Management, Trichy (IIM-Trichy), the 11th established by the India government, is aiming at becoming one of the country's major global institutions in the next 10 years, in line with the Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry's plans. The institute is planning to shift to its own campus, being developed with an investment of around Rs 584 crore, said management officials.

The institute, launched in June 2011, is focusing on the quality of faculty, infrastructure, curriculum, placement, overall image of the institute and the location to reach this goal.

"We are in an excellent position in all these factors," said Prafulla Agnihotri, director, Trichy.

"In another 10 years' time, we should aim at being a global institute with international faculty and students present on the campus," he said. The new campus is also being developed with the same vision. "We are aiming at creating an alternative destination for education in India, which would provide an excellent alternative to the educational institutions in the US, UK or Australia. Instead of Indian students going out to study there, we want them to come and study over here," he added.

The institute will be moving to the new campus in January, 2017, from the temporary campus inside the National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli's campus to the new facility in the city, set up in a total of 170 acres allotted by the Tamil Nadu government. The new facility includes an academic block, administration block, faculty housing, student housing, staff housing and a food court. The estimated investment to set up the new campus is around Rs 584 crore. The funding for the new campus has been provided by the HRD Ministry.

The class room model, adopted from the model, is a bell-shaped class room or a well-shaped classroom, where the faculty stands in the centre and the farthest student is not as far as it would be in a rectangular-shaped class room. Acoustic quality is another aspect which has been focused on in terms of infrastructure, added the management. The library, which will be called the learning centre, is designed as a place of learning rather than a place of reading, giving more comfort to the users, they said.

has been marking 100 per cent placement from its first year and the salaries offered to its students were on an average higher than those in the competing institutes, they added.
