Tiruchirapalli railway divsion is on an energy-saving spree

The Tiruchirapalli division of the Southern Railway has consumed 13.28 million units of power for this year, which is only 0.28% higher than the one recorded for the same period last year. Trichy divisional railway manager A V Vaidiyalingam made the announcement on Wednesday at a function during an energy conservation week, being observed from December 12 to 17. This is despite the introduction of three new routes in the division, including one gauge conversion.

Incidentally, the new routes that were introduced were the 150-km route between Villupuram and Vellore, (converted into broad gauge), the 12-km route between Needamangalam and Mannargudi and the eight km route between Nagapattinam and Velankanni. "Despite the introduction of these routes, the energy consumption was brought down this year, thanks to the innovative ideas employed by the division," Vaidiyalingam said.
