Fund for link road to IT Park sanctioned

Based on ELCOT's (Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu) proposal for building a strong link road to Navalpattu IT Park, the State Government has sanctioned Rs. 6.1 crore.

The State Government took cognisance of ELCOT's representation that the existing 100 feet road falling in the limits of Navalpattu and Gundur panchayats needs to be re-laid to international standards to attract companies to Tiruchi, and sanctioned the fund for utilisation within this financial year. After the new government took over, the Department of Rural Development promptly fulfilled its formalities to issue a no-objection certificate to the State Highways Department for taking over the 100-feet road, paving way for the issual of the GO. The stretch requires construction of bridges at two spots.

Once the road branching off at Gundur from Tiruchi-Pudukottai National Highway is relaid to a length of over 5 km, the ELCOT will be in a strong position to attract companies to its built up space to the extent of 50,000 square feet. The IT Park would be only 15 minutes drive away from the airport after completion of the road.

ELCOT sources expect utilisation of built up space to go up beyond the 30 per cent mark in a few months. Business Process Outsourcing major WNS, which had already evinced interest to establish its facility on a five-acre site, intends to block space in the built up area to get started, it is learnt.
