IIM-T to begin placement in 4 months

The Indian Institute of Management-Tiruchy (IIM-T), which is just three weeks old, will start the placement process in another four months. Many MNCs and major companies have confirmed their participation in the recruitment drive. Godwin Tennyson, Assistant Professor and Chairman for Placements and External Relations said, although most of the MNCs had agreed to take part, the numbers are yet to be finalised. Apart from finance, marketing, consulting and banking, other streams of companies would also participate in the process. Tennyson told Express that they were also working to bring in some of the overseas companies which have branch office or franchise in India, as the students were not bound to borders. Commenting on dual course to increase placement probability, he said, ‘instead of dual course, the students are given the option of electives. A student can choose any other stream for the elective paper apart from their major’.

The two-year PG programme (PGP), would offer a variety of specialisation for the students to select from for their major in the second year. The programmes would include, finance, marketing, information system, operations, human resources and corporate strategy. The faculty and the students committee would devise strategies once the companies start visiting the campus for pre-placement talks. On placement training for the students, he said, there were no plans for now, but such training would be offered, if necessary. On seeking guidelines from other IIMs regarding tie-ups with companies for campus recruitment, he said IIM-T had unique features like 10-12 full-time faculties who had work experience in academics and industry, which no other new IIMs have. The average CAT score of all the 85 students of IIM-T is 98.06 percent. He was optimistic that IIM-T was capable of functioning autonomously.
