NIT-T plans to sign MoUs with US institution


At least three MoUs would be inked by National Institute of Technology-Tiruchirappalli with leading institutions from the United States in the next two months, its new Director S Sundararajan said.

Speaking to reporters here after taking charge, Sundararajan said he was in touch with some leading educational institutions in UK and US with a view to inking some MoUs with NIT-T that exchange of student and faculty could be embarked upon for enhancement of the status of NIT-T at a global level.

Plans are afoot to unveil various centres of excellence as multi-disciplinary outfits which could embark on high level R&D efforts with an objective to match needs of industries, he said.

Sunderrajan was till recently heading Defense Research Development Laboratories at Hyderabad under DRDO engaged in developing missiles and possessing a track record of developing over 1000 products and processes for aero space systems.

About eight centres of excellence would get commissioned in the next three or four years in various disciplines of energy, infrastructure development, renewable energy sources, pollution and social issues and in nano-technology,he said.

In the blueprint were plans to upgrade NIT-Trichy on par with IITs or even superseding them in rendering R&D efforts.

It was also planned to inculcate the model of renowned MIT (Massachutes Institute of Technology) for developing industry institute interactive cells with full support from the student community itself.

In response to questions, he said NIT-T would offer industrial consultancy and also would establish a centre for testing and calibration for the benefit of industrial houses in Tamil Nadu.
