The Centre has appointed directors to the four new Indian Institutes of Management. The new directors are B.S. Sahay (Raipur), P. Ranesh (Rohtak), M. Joseph Xavier (Ranchi) and Y. Agnihotri (Trichy).

The B-schools at Ranchi and Rohtak have started functioning from temporary campuses under the mentorship of IIM Calcutta and Lucknow, respectively. IIM Raipur, mentored by IIM Indore, is set to offer courses from October.

IIM Trichy, being mentored by IIM Bangalore, is expected to start courses soon, a human resource development ministry official said.

The mentor IIMs are providing temporary academic and administrative support to the new institutes.

“IIM Rohtak is offering a two-year PGP (postgraduate programme) in management. It has taken in 50 students in the first batch,” said Devi Singh, director of IIM Lucknow.

IIM Ranchi has started its PGP with 45 students from this session, IIM Calcutta director Shekhar Chaudhuri said. Both institutes are charging around Rs 6 lakh for the two-year course. The Raipur institute is expected to offer 70 seats for its two-year PGP.

The proposed IIMs at Udaipur, Rajasthan, and Kashipur in Uttarakhand are expected to start classes next year.
