New signals at more traffic intersections

New traffic signals are being installed in six intersections within the city, including at two points where they were removed earlier to carry out four-laning works, to regulate movement of vehicles.

The new signals will come up at Court Junction, Mannarpuram, TVS Tollgate, Old Palpannai round about, Tiruvanaikoil and Gorimedu.

Installation works underway

The signals at Mannarpuram and TVS Tollgate junctions were removed to enable construction of flyovers as part of the four-laning works.

Police sources here said that barring the Gorimedu point, the signal installation works were currently underway in the chosen intersections and are expected to be commissioned within a month's time.

Signals already functioning

Traffic Signals are also already functioning at 19 intersections such as Head Post Office Roundtana, Othakadai, MGR statue, Puthur Four Road junction, Kohinoor Theatre junction, Main Guard gate, Viralimalai junction and Mambazha Salai.

The sources said the city police had booked over 5,600 cases under the Motor Vehicle Act in September and collected a fine amount of Rs. 7.28 lakh .

The cases were booked under various heads including drunken driving, no parking, driving without licence and over speeding
