Karur Bypass Road to be widened

TIRUCHI: The Highways Department would soon begin work on upgrading the Karur Bypass road stretch between the Anna Statue near Chinthamani and the Kudamuritti river bridge on the Tiruchi-Karur Highway in the City as a four-lane road.

The project is to be taken up at an estimated cost of Rs.1.6 crore sanctioned under the Comprehensive Road Infrastructure Development Programme of the State Government.

Under the project, the road stretch for a distance of about 800 metres would be raised in height and widened as a four-lane road.

The road level was being raised to prevent flooding during the monsoon.

The busy road apart from being the approach road to the Tiruchi-Karur Highway, also links the Chathram Bus Stand and the Karur Bypass Road Bridge running up to the Salai Road near Thillai Nagar.

Site inspected

On Wednesday, Transport Minister K.N.Nehru, accompanied by Collector T.Soundiah and other officials, inspected the site along with Highways and Tamil Nadu Electricity Board officials.
