Empower IT TrITchy 2009 campaign on December 4

The Empower IT TrITchy 2009 campaign of Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu (ELCOT) intended to increase the number of students directly employable in IT industry and showcase the potential of manpower in Tier II cities will be held at CARE Engineering College here on December 4. Originally scheduled for November 28, the event has been postponed in view of the university examinations.

The inauguration will be followed by a seminar to be addressed by Chief Executive Officers, Senior Representatives and HR Managers of top IT-BPO companies in the country.

Twenty five IT-BPO companies have confirmed their participation in the event primarily meant for final-year graduate and post-graduate students of Arts and Science, and Engineering colleges in eight districts: Tiruchi, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Pudukottai, Karur, Nagapattinam, Ariyalur and Perambalur.

Ten nodal colleges have been identified to conduct pre-final contests on November 29 on Skill Assessment, Business ideas contest, Elocution, Technical Assessment, Coding, Debugging & Software Development. IT industry representatives will chair various panels to judge the presentations and choose the best three award winners among each category of competition.

The successful students / colleges would be offered attractive cash prizes and other incentives.

The nodal colleges can utilise the opportunity to conduct a mass contact programme, inviting students and faculties of various Engineering, Arts & Science colleges to hold various interactive events / activities to understand industry requirements precisely, according to the details on the event the ELCOT has posted in its website www.elcot.in.

ElCOT’s campaign in association with the National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM) intends to achieve the objectives of enabling students understand the potential employment opportunities in IT Companies so that they can equip themselves better; to create awareness and sense of competitiveness among them; to create a platform for students and IT companies for a better understanding of strength, weaknesses, opportunities and requirements; and enabling IT companies and potential IT investors to know the potential of the region for taking informed decisions on locating their operations.

As per the NASSCOM - AT Kearney report “Location Road Map for IT BPO in India,” Trichy by various parameters is marked as a Challenger location. It also clearly states that “the size of the graduate pool makes it easier to establish small-midsized companies in the location; BPO Companies could leverage a niche English-speaking population.” With these advantages in the location, the ELCOT believes that companies will think of implementing branding exercises in Tiruchi as a fair idea.

To ensure active participation by arts and science colleges for the event, the Vice-Chancellor of Bharathidasan University, M. Ponnavaikko, convened a meeting of principals on Thursday.
