Tourist attractions of region to be projected

: A delegation of the Tiruchi Travel Federation (TTF), a recently floated representative body of air operators, academia, travel trade and hospitality industry of the city to promote tourism and allied industries, would soon visit Colombo to promote the tourist attractions in Tiruchi region.

The delegation, comprising about 10 to 12 members, would visit Colombo on a three-day trip from December 20 to project the tourism potential of the region, especially the heritage/pilgrimage circuit covering Tiruchi, Thanjavur, Kumbakonam, Darasuram, Gangaikondacholapuram, Nagore and other places in the region, T.H.Radhakrishnan, Station Manager, Air India and president, TTF, told The Hindu here on Sunday.

The delegation would make a presentation before an audience comprising the Sri Lankan travel trade, hospitality industry, academia, students and the general public at a convention centre in Colombo. The meet was being organised with the cooperation of the Indian High Commission at Colombo, the Sri Lankan Airlines, the Sri Lanka tourism development agencies and the local educational institutions. A video presentationon the tourist attractions of the region would be made.

The presentation would include local specialities/expertise such as the brass sculpture industry of Swamimalai, Mr.Radhakrishnan said. Separate presentations on the scope for medical and educational tourism would also be made by the members of the TTF representing the sectors concerned.

Tiruchi city, with several educational institutions and quality hospitals, could attract patients for medical treatment and students for higher learning, it was pointed out.
Outbound tourism

The visit would also explore the scope for promoting outbound tourism from South India to Colombo so that the visit was of mutual benefit.

The delegation would also be visiting Kandy and other places in Sri Lanka for interactions with the local industry there. “We have also planned a similar visit to Dubai soon after,” Mr.Radhakrishnan disclosed.

Meanwhile, as part of its tourism promotion activities here, the TTF would host a tourism quiz in the city on December 12 in coordination with the Internet Users Club and Shrimathi Indira Gandhi College.
