Tiruchi Corporation Commissioner N. Ravichandran on Sunday said that the Uyyakondan riverfront development project will be completed within two years.

Speaking to The Hindu after the 'boomi puja' for the ₹17.56 crore project on the left bank of Uyyakondan Channel, he said that it was one of the important projects being taken up under the Smart City Mission 2018-19. The project would enable the provision of various amenities for the 2.6 km out of the 8.7 km length of the canal in the city limits. Improving of road, formation of pathway, construction of retaining wall, establishment of parks and provision of road site street lights were among the project.

Mr. Ravichandran said that in order to prevent people from littering the river, bio-fencing would be established for 2,600 meters. As many as three public parks would be established along the left bank. A total of 430 granite stone benches would be placed at different locations. The entire 2.6 km stretch would have gardening with landscape arrangements.
