TNSCB plans to provide lift for its apartments

The Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board (TNSCB) plans to provide elevators (lift) for its apartments being constructed at Vannarapettai in the city.

Though the TNSCB constructed many tenements in different parts of the region, it has never provided the elevator facility to any of them so far. This is the first time that the TNSCB is providing elevator facility to a slum clearance project in the region.

“The facility will lift the image of the project. It is on par with any other private apartments,” says S. Suresh, Executive Engineer, TNSCB, Tiruchi.

Similar to flat dwellers in private apartments, he said that the occupants of the tenements would have to form an association. It could collect a nominal maintenance charge every month to bear the maintenance of elevator and other expenses.

Mr. Suresh said that the project at Vannarapettai would have 384 apartments. It was being constructed at a cost of ₹32 crore on 4 acres of land. Each of the flat would have a plinth area of 402.96 square feet. The apartment blocks would have a ground plus seven floors. It would have a public park and amenities for playing equipment for children.

Construction of about 80 % of work had already been completed. Provision of electricity, water and sewage services was yet to be completed. It would be ready for occupation in May or June. Beneficiaries for most apartments had been identified. The cost of each apartment was ₹6.50 lakh and beneficiaries are required contribute ₹2.50 lakh. To help beneficiaries, ₹2 lakh was arranged by way of bank loans and they need to contribute only ₹50,000 by themselves, Mr. Suresh said.
