Rs. 1,500-cr. input likely in MSME sector



The industries department has projected investments in Tiruchi district to the tune of Rs. 1,500 crore in MSME (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises) sector over the next two years.

At a meeting chaired by him here recently in the run-up to the Tamil Nadu Global Investors Meet 2019 in Chennai next month, Collector K. Rajamani told a gathering of prospective entrepreneurs, bankers and representatives of industries associations that proposals for investments to the tune of Rs. 400 crore had already been received.

Principal Secretary/Industries Commissioner and Director of Industries and Commerce Rajendra Kumar was present at the meeting.

Industrial estate

The Collector exhorted the youth to start enterprises at SIPCO Industrial Estate to come up on a 1,000-acre site at Mondipatti in Manapparai taluk.

Likewise, there were attractive investment possibilities for the proposed defence corridor project.

Engineering ancillaries were expecting conversion orders for four lakh tonnes from BHEL. ELCOT was also augmenting capacity of the IT Park at Navelpattu at an invesment of Rs. 40 crore, the Collector said.

Trade centre

Mr. Rajamani also said SIDCO had provided support to start a trade centre at a cost of Rs. 11 crore.

The expansion of Tiruchi International Airport would reflect in an unswing in exports, the Collector added.

Participants at the meeting also included the General Manager of District Industries Centre, Tiruchi, K. Chidambaram, president of Tiruchi District Tiny and Small Scale Industries’ Association, Kanagasabapathy, and representatives of other industry associations.
