Srirangam ACP bags president's medal

Trichy: Srirangam range assistant commissioner of police K Ramachandran has bagged the president’s medal for meritorious service.

Inducted into to Tamil Nadu Police as sub-inspector of police in March 1996, Ramachandran, of Varappur village in Pudukkottai district, became the deputy superintendent of police (DSP) in directorate of vigilance and anti-corruption (DVAC), Tamil Nadu in October 2005. Before this, he served as sub-inspector in Thanjavur, Tirunelveli and Dindigul district and as inspector in Theni after his first promotion.


His 12-and-a-half year stint in the DVAC as inspector and DSP has earned him accolades. In his service in DVAC in Madurai, Thanjavur, Trichy, Pudukkottai, Sivagangai and again in Trichy, he laid 38 traps to nab the officers on graft charges, ten surprise checks on the premises of the erring officers and submitted 46 vigilance reports on the suspected officers.


The arrests of a district revenue officer in Karur, a deputy superintendent of police, Lalgudi in Trichy, executive engineers of PWD in Trichy were some of his successful traps.


Sources said good track record for 20 years was taken into consideration for this award. Prior to that, he was awarded with Chief Minister’s (Anna Medal) Medal in 2009 and Tamil Nadu Governor’s vigilance medal in 2012. In February 2018, he was transferred to Trichy city police as the assistant commissioner, law and order, Srirangam range.
