Trichy Airport makes a decent profit.

Trichy International airport has secured the top position in revenue generation among the non-metro airports in the southern region. The airport has earned a net profit of Rs 32 crore during the financial year 2017-18 against the Rs 28 crore earned during the last financial year. The rise in revenue was mainly attributed to the variety of new shops at the airport.

"The amount may seem meagre. But for a small airport like Trichy that comes under the non-metro airports, Rs 32 crore net profits is a huge amount," airport director K Gunasekaran said. Last year, the profit was Rs 29 crore, he said.

Trichy airport has a variety of shops like that of metro airports. Moreover, the numbers of domestic as well as international flights are ever increasing. More than 100 flights are being operated from Trichy airport a week. These are all the factors attributed to the revenue generation of the airport, he told TOI.

Trichy airport has also bounced back to the 4th place from 6th position in the Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI) survey conducted by the Airport Authority of India (AAI) among the 51 non-metro airports across the country between January and June 2018. Meanwhile, the airport has retained the top position in the CSI survey conducted among the non-metro airports in the southern region. Trichy airport has been retaining the top position on the CSI survey for the third consecutive time, he said.
