Good response from students to clean city campaign, says civic body chief

The ‘Students@Clean City’ campaign has received good response from students and parents, Corporation Commissioner N. Ravichandran said on Wednesday.

Under the campaign, school managements had been asked to ensure that students get the signatures of their parents and civic workers on sanitation cards issued to them.

Interacting with students and parents at Devangupuram, Mr. Ravichandran said most of the school-going children were getting the signatures on the sanitation cards upon handing over their segregated household waste to sanitary workers. Most of the 360 primary, middle and higher secondary schools in the city had distributed sanitary cards to their students.

Mr. Ravichandran said the campaign aimed at inculcating the value of cleanliness in students and making them imbibe a sense of hygiene and cleanliness at a young age. The students should execute the task every day right through the month of July and get the signatures of their parents and civic officials on sanitation cards in order to win prizes.

The filled-in cards for the month should be handed over to the headmasters or principals of the schools. A drawing of lots would be held in the presence of students in the first week of August.

The winner of the first prize from each school would get a bicycle worth Rs. 5,000. The second prize winner would be given an article worth Rs. 1,000 and the third prize winner would receive an Oxford dictionary.

Assistant Commissioners of the corporation had been asked to monitor the progress of the bicycle prize campaign in their respective areas.
