Candidates admitted for the Post-Graduate Programme 2018-20 in Indian Institute of Management-Tiruchi will enjoy the privilege of being the first batch to spend their learning days at the permanent campus.

Significantly, girls outnumber boys in the new batch of 180 students, who were accorded a formal welcome earlier this week at the new premises.

The institution had moved from the premises of National Institute of Technology - Tiruchi to the permanent campus on a sprawling site at Chinna Suriyur along the Tiruchi-Pudukkottai National Highway during the last academic year.

Higher enrolment

of girls

The composition of girls in the batches of previous years was much lesser. The higher enrolment of girls this year reaffirms the institute's commitment to gender inclusion, IIMT Director Bhimaraya Metri said at the programme.

The event also also witnessed presentation of merit awards to the batch of 2017-19.

The state-of-the-art facilities, presence of 37 faculty members with strong research base and global exposure, and the cultural history of the region were conducive factors for all-round learning in the campus, Mr. Metri said.

Merit awards

Recipients of the Director’s Merit Awards for academic performance accounting for the top five per cent of the students in the entire batch comprised Deepesh Agarwal, Jagtap Sachin Suresh, Rahul Gulati, Gorwadkar Piyush Mahesh, Cherukupalli Sravani, Ashwini Kumar Goyal, Chitwala Deekshit Kumar, Mayank Kumar Pansari, Arun A and Sumit Banerjee (doctoral student).

Presenting the awards, the Guest of Honour Jibitesh Rath, General Manager (HRD), NMDC Ltd, encouraged the students to have role models in their lives and align their purpose of life to what they do.

“Never, never, never quit,” he said, quoting Winston Churchill.

Chief Guest Sanjeev Kumar Gupta, MD & CEO, ‘Lahari’ - Advanced Electronics Testing Facility, urged students to develop the traits of 'never say die' attitude and integrity in corporate careers, and to launch themselves to work towards making India a powerful nation.

Special award

He announced a Special Award of Rs. 25,000 to a woman candidate in the area of entrepreneurship.

Godwin Tennyson, Chairperson, PGPM, also addressed the students.
