Sand quarries will soon resume their operations in Tiruchi district after fulfilling the conditions imposed by the High Court, Collector K. Rajamani said here on Wednesday.

Speaking to reporters, he said the High Court had imposed conditions for operating sand quarries in Tiruchi district. The Public Works Department (PWD), which was authorised by the State to operate the quarries, was working to fulfill them. Once the formalities were completed, all 13 quarries in the district would resume their operations. In addition to them, a dedicated sand quarry for government projects would also be opened by fulfilling all mandatory clearances.

On delay over utilisation of the new vegetable market at Kallikudi, Mr. Rajamani said a sum of Rs. 77 crore was spent on the market on the outskirts of Tiruchi. It had already been declared open by Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami through videoconferencing. Based on the demand of traders, the number of shops in the market had been decreased by increasing the size of each shop. The remodeling was likely to be completed within a few days. All-out efforts would be made to bring the market for transacting day-to-day business.

On the integrated bus stand, the Collector said the Tiruchi City Corporation had appointed a private consultant to prepare a report on establishment of an integrated bus stand. The details of the report were awaited.

To a question, Mr. Rajamani said that as far as the multi-level road bridge near Tiruchi Railway Junction was concerned, the Highways officials had come forward to open traffic on completed portions. He would soon carry out spot inspection to take a decision on it. Sincere efforts were made to get the approval of Ministry of Defence for transferring its land for the project.

Work on the railway overbridge at Thiruvanaikoil was progressing well. They were likely to be completed within the stipulated time frame. He would review the progress of the works soon.
