Ordnance Factory displays its arsenal

The Ordnance Factory (OFT), Tiruchi, marked the Ordnance Factories Day by hosting an exhibition displaying weapons manufactured by it here on Saturday.

Modern small arms, modern weapons, antique weapons and futuristic weapons were on display at the expo which was open for the public on Saturday.

Futuristic weapons developed through in-house research and development efforts included multi-grenade launcher 40 mm, under barrel grenade launcher for 40 mm grenade, multi-shell launcher for 38 mm tear gas and rubber bullet, automatic grenade launcher for 30 mm grenades, assault rifle and medium machine gun (PKT). The OFT supplies rifles and high calibre automatic weapons to the Armed forces, central armed para military forces and state police forces, a press release from the OFT said.

The exhibition was inaugurated by Shirish Khare, General Manager, OFT.

The journey and growth of the OFT since its inauguration in 1966 by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was also depicted.

This was done through photographs and multi-media presentations.

Cultural programmes were also organised by the OFT as part of the celebrations.
