Officials from 33 civic bodies visit micro compost centres in Trichy

Officials from 33 civic bodies, including four corporations, on Monday visited the micro compost centres maintained by the Trichy Corporation. The onsite training programme for 189 officials was aimed at replicating such micro compost centres in other civic bodies since they can help avoid the need for massive compost yards.
The programme was held as instructed by commissioner of municipal administration G Prakash. Later, there was a power point presentation on the working of the micro compost centres.
The Trichy Corporation commenced decentralisation of solid waste collection and disposal by establishing a micro compost centre at Pookollai near Gandhi Market in 2016. It has set up 23 such centres since then. The main objective of micro compost centres is to prevent domestic waste from reaching the corporation's 47-acre dump yard at Ariyamangalam.
