Now obtain passport sans police verification

Applying for a passport has been simplified as the police verification certificate is no longer mandatory. The move will be a great relief to applicants as they need not get the verification certificate to obtain passport in urgency, sources from the regional passport office here said.
"As per the passport rule amended by the Ministry of External Affairs, hereafter citizens who applied for passport under the tatkal scheme need not bother about verification certificate, saidS Lingasamy, regional passport officer, Trichy.


Applicants above 18 years of age have to provide, besides Aadhaar, a self-declaration and prescribed fee under the tatkal scheme along with any two of the 12 authorised identity documents including voter ID, ration card, licence or PAN card.
If the applicant is below 18 years, in addition to Aadhaar, he has to provide a photo identity card issued by an educational institution, birth certificate and ration card.
Applicants 18 years and above, under the normal scheme, has to only submit any two of the 12 documents in addition to Aadhaar. If the applicant is a minor, he has to provide three documents such as ID card from an educational institution, birth certificate and ration card along with Aadhaar.
In all cases, post police verification shall be done. No additional fee is required, the passport officer added.
