Gym opened by Corporation.



THE corporation inaugurated its first open roadside gym in Tiruchy on Monday at a cost of 1 lakh. The gym was opened near Puthur EVR Road in Ward 52 of K-Abhishekapuram Zone. It has facilities for stretching, aerobics and weight training as well as fitness equipment. The gym was inaugurated by Commissioner of Municipal Ad-ministration (CMA) G Prakash who visited the city on Monday for Tiruchy Corporation's work-shop on decentralised waste disposal.

He was accompanied by civic body officials, including Commissioner N Ravichandran. The gym is open to people of all age groups. Prakash also inaugurated an auto-flush urinal/toilet complex near Central Bus Station in Tiruchy. The complex was built at a cost of Z5 latch and contains five urinals, including one for the differently-abled. The toilets have been set up to do away with the menace of people openly relieving themselves near the bus station for many years.

Officials Workshop on waste disposal The city Corporation conducted a State-level workshop on Monday on 'Decentra Used Wastage Disposal'. The programme was attended by 263 officials from four corporations and 29 municipalities. Commissioner of Municipal Administration G Prakash told attendees the concept of micro-compost yards was a scam-free process. He stated they are planning to build more such toilet complexes depending on the success of the one at the bus station. The CMA later inaugurated a new micro-compost yard near Ayyalamman Padithurai in Ward 9 in Srirangam Zone. The yard has been built at a cost of 156.6 lakh and would process waste from 4,426 households on 44 streets. Total waste to be processed is estimated at 7,425 metric tonne. The facility brings the total number of micro-compost yards to 23 in the city
