Trichy and Chennai airports receive 8% of international tourists in January

According to data released by the Union tourism ministry, the two airports figured on the list of 15 top ports that had recorded the highest tourist arrivals, while New Delhi and Mumbai secured the first and second places respectively.
The Chennai airport has received 7.32% of overseas tourist arrivals and Tiruchirapalli airport welcomed 1.38% tourists from abroad. The ministry of tourism compiles monthly estimates of Foreign Tourist Arrivals (FTAs) with data received from Bureau of Immigration (BOI).
As per the data in January 2017, the number of foreign tourists visiting India jumped by 16.5% when compared with January 2016. The number of FTAs in January, 2017 was 9.83 lakh while 8.44 lakh inbound tourists travelled in January, 2016.
The statement further said that US nationals topped the list among international tourists with 15.01% followed by Bangladesh, United Kingdom and Canada in last month (January 2017).
