The advisory committee of the Trichy international airport that met after a hiatus post the elections has decided to delink the defence land acquisition keeping in mind the future expansion of the city airport.

According to members of the advisory committee, the immediate acquiring of the defence land is not required. Out of the total land acquisition of 510.30 acres, 164.68 acres fall in the defence category.

Leaving out the 164 acres, the remaining land would be taken up for development. "The delinking of the defence land and the acquisition of the remaining land will lead to the extension of the runway at the Trichy airport, which in turn will facilitate arrival of bigger aircrafts and put an end to the existing load restrictions," said MP P Kumar from Trichy and also a key member of the advisory committee.
