IIM-Trichy to move into its own campus in 2015

The 2015 session of the Indian Institute of Management, Trichy will be held at the institution's own campus, said its director Prafulla Agnihotri after signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in Delhi with V K Gupta, director general of Central Public Works Department (CPWD), on Thursday.
The CPWD has been entrusted with the task of constructing a permanent campus on the outskirts of the city. At present the IIM-T operates from a renovated old library building that belongs to the National Institute of Technology, Trichy.

"I feel immensely happy and the construction work for the new campus would start soon," Agnihotri told TOI from Delhi. Highlighting the achievements of IIM-T over the last two years, Agnihotri mentioned that the institute was progressing in the right direction to be among the top 10 business schools in the country in five years.
The permanent campus will come up on a 70-acre land at Chinna Suriyur village in Navalpattu near Bharathidasan University's main campus on the Trichy-Pudukkottai Road. In fact, it was at this site the IIM-Trichy management had erected a concave shape camp to conduct the first annual convocation to award postgraduate diploma in management in April this year. The architecture master plan of the IIM-T was approved by the board of governors under the chairmanship of retired IAS officer M Damodaran in November last year.
In the second academic year, the IIM-T added a brand new world-class library set up at a cost of Rs 90 lakh. The Rs 450 crore permanent campus would comprise world-class hostels for about 1,500 students, quarters for about 300 faculty, a floating library, recreational facilities and a full-fledged Management Development Centre for both the students and the faculty.
IIM-Trichy, the 11th in the country, was started in 2011 and in its second year it became the first in the country to offer fellow programme in management (equivalent to a PhD in a university system). The institute further commenced its three-year postgraduate programme in business management for working executives at Chennai in August 2012.
