Summer Beach at Cauvery Riverbed
The river bank-turned-mini beach on the banks of Cauvery, which proved a
big hit with the entertainment-starved residents of Tiruchi city and
the surrounding areas during last summer, is back with a bang this year.
The summer beach will start functioning from April 20 and the officials inspected the river bank on Thursday.
The beach will be set up on the stretch of the bank at Ammamandapam in
Srirangam. The corporation has already launched the work of levelling
the bank by removing the bushes in an attempt to create a beach-like
ambience, and also creating infrastructure facilities and lighting
arrangements.
V. P. Thandapani, Corporation Commissioner, along with the top officials
visited the site and inspected the ongoing works. He discussed the
steps to be taken for providing protected drinking water and for
cleaning the site every day.
The summer beach functioned last year from April 22 to June 3. Cultural programmes too entertained the people.
A special team comprising Shailesh Kumar Yadav, Commissioner of Police,
Mr. Thandapani, Public Works Department executive engineers P.
Balasubramanian (River Conservation Division), and P. Rabindhar
(Buildings and Construction), inspected the site for creating adequate
infrastructure facilities and to ensure safety and security for the
people visiting the beach.
The summer beach will function from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. and cultural
programmes will be conducted on weekends and government holidays.
The artistes who volunteer to conduct music and other cultural
programmes on their own at the summer beach can contact the Public
Relations Officer, Tiruchi Corporation, a press release of the District
Collector Jayashree Muralidharan issued here on Thursday said.
