Jet Airways' morning flight between Trichy-Chennai

Residents of Trichy have a reason to cheer now. Jet Airways that currently runs three services a day to Chennai from Trichy will add another flight from May 1, which would depart at 7.40am. This is considered significant because Trichy, which does not have air connectivity to any of the 72 commercial destinations in the country except Chennai, did not have a morning flight to facilitate businessmen, academicians and government officials to reach the state capital, to attend any meeting during the day time.

The first Jet Airways flight from Chennai lands at 11.10am and takes off from Trichy at 11.40am, the second lands at 2.30pm and takes off at 3pm and the last flight lands at 8.30pm and takes off at 9pm. More than a decade ago, the erstwhile Indian Airlines' flights that came either from Abu Dhabi or Sharjah went through Trichy in the mornings and since the services were stopped, there was no morning flight to Chennai from Trichy, said V Subbu, the chairman of the IAAI, (IATA Agents Association of India)

Trichy regional committee. "There was never a domestic service from Trichy to Chennai after sunrise and the decision of Jet Airways is indeed heartening and we all welcome it wholeheartedly," Subbu added.

A spokesman of Jet Airways said the company had already obtained the necessary approval from the director of civil aviation and explained that the airline that operates a fleet of 100 aircraft did not fill such a vital slot earlier for want of aircraft. According to the new schedule of Jet Airways, the hitherto morning flight that lands in Trichy at 11.10am would instead land much earlier at 7.10am and the third flight would land at Trichy 6.15pm instead of at 8.40pm now. "This is a very convenient and the most needed operation. It must be retained instead of just operating it during the summer month," Trichy Travel Association president V Vasudevan told TOI. "Moreover, this morning flight would also facilitate one to get a connecting flight from Chennai to either Mumbai or Delhi with much ease and we all welcome it," added Vasudevan.
