IIM Trichy Admissions 2012: CAT 80 percentilers can expect PI-WAT call

The IIMs have declared their admission criteria for the admissions to the batch of 2012-14. In the special series of articles on Admissions 2012-14 of new IIMs, we are sharing with you the details of the parameters looked after and their weightages. Today’s article of MBAUniverse.com talks about IIM Trichy Admissions 2012-14.

Like all the new IIMs, IIM Trichy will also conduct the admission process through CAT 2011 scores, Personal Interview & Written Analysis Test (WAT), Academic records and work experience.

The criteria to short list the candidates for the Personal Assessment rounds are primarily done through the CAT percentile. The cut off percentile for IIM Trichy are as follows:

Written Analysis Test and The Personal Interview have 15 per cent and 25 per cent weightage respectively. The Written Analysis part checks the Vocabulary, Content and Writing Skills.

The qualities that will be checked during the Personal Interview process are as follows:

a. Communication, Attitude and Personality
b. Academic efforts and disposition
c. Managerial and leadership attributes
d. Social awareness and disposition
e. Overall presence

Work Experience is given five per cent weightage. IIM Trichy mentions, “It is based on relevance and quality of actual work done and achievements, if any.”

Performance in UG level has 10 per cent weightage. In this regard, IIM Trichy mentions, “This performance shall be measured by multiplying the percentage marks scored at the graduation level by the weightage applicable to the discipline as shown below. 15 per cent of the score so obtained shall be considered in the overall evaluation.”

In order to encourage diversity among the candidates, differential weightage is awarded to different educational backgrounds of the prospective students. The weightages are as follows:

a. Engineering / Technology: 0.6
b. Science: 0.8
c. Commerce / Economics / Management: 1.0
d. Arts / Medicine (including Pharmacy): 0.9

The Master’s Degree or Professional Degree Students will be awarded 5 per cent weightage. This includes pass in Master Degree and CA, ICWA or CS degrees.

In order to ensure gender diversity, female candidates will be granted five per cent additional weightage.

CAT 2011 scores will be given 35 per cent weightage.
