IT Park inauguration postponed

Inauguration of the Tiruchi IT Park at Navalpattu is not on the itinerary of the Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin's official visit here this month-end. Official sources said the IT Park is likely to be inaugurated sometime during mid-November or by the end of next month. The works in the building of the Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu (ELCOT) with 50,000 square feet carpet area are still being carried out at a frantic pace, it is learnt.

The good news is that almost the entire space in the SEZ has been blocked by IT and ITES companies. Allotment of space for two among them: Integra Software Services Private Limited, and Assist Information Private Limited has already been made, ELCOT sources said.

These companies are likely to shift their operations to their own facilities after the completion of three-year lease period. The other companies that have applied for built-up space include Seventh Sense Technologies, OKS Prepress services private company, and Scientific Publication Ltd.

Acknowledging the delay in completion of electro-mechanical works, official sources said transformers have been installed and that power supply would be provided to the building by the middle of November.

The delay notwithstanding, ELCOT has reasons to feel upbeat. The booking of almost the entire available space, in the backdrop of worldwide recession, has understandably cheered up ELCOT.

Most of the companies that have so far applied for space in the building are carrying out projects for European countries and are more or less insulated from the impact of global recession, he added. These companies, it is learnt, expect an announcement on the relaying of link road from the IT Park to the Tiruchi-Pudukkottai Highway on the day of inauguration of the park.
