Green Tiruchi Movement to beautify environment

The Green Tiruchi Movement launched by Project Greenhands, the environmental branch of Isha Foundation, here on Saturday envisages planting of 1 lakh saplings in the district over a decade in keeping with the Foundation's initiative to restore to Tamil Nadu 33 per cent of green cover at the earliest.

‘Ananda Alai'

Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, Founder of Isha Yoga, inaugurated the movement by planting a sapling at the St. Joseph's College Grounds, shortly before the Mahasathsang that constituted a part of ‘Ananda Alai' (wave of bliss) conceptualised to enable people to attain their peak potential and prepare their minds to effectively handle the country's economic prosperity.

The launch event was presided over by the State Transport Minister K.N. Nehru and attended by a host of dignitaries including the District Collector T. Soundiah, the Mayor S. Sujatha, the Chairman of Vasan Group of Companies A.M. Arun, the College Rector Rev. Fr. P. Susai, and the Managing Director of G.B. Industries Private Ltd. B.Pattabhiraman.

Monitoring

The execution of the Green Tiruchi Movement would be monitored by the Foundation's voluntary force: Pasumai Padhukavalar.

The Foundation is receiving able support from the highways, forest and police departments for fulfilling its objective, according to Swami Eka, Public Relations Coordinator, Isha Yoga.

“We have taken the addresses and phone numbers of the nearly 10,000 people who attended the Mahasathsang and took home saplings of fruit-bearing, flowering, avenue trees of their choice. A mechanism is in place to replace saplings that wither away with supplies from the five centralised nurseries across Tamil Nadu,” Swami Eka said.

Social responsibility

Display stalls were put up at the venue to create awareness and a sense of social responsibility among people towards the environment. Replete with melodious music and soulful songs brought out by the Foundation's ‘Sounds of Isha', the Mahasathsang that attracted a large crowd served as an ideal platform for the Foundation to create environmental awareness.

Inner potential

The Sathguru who kept the throng of people spellbound with chants and discourse provided to curious minds precious insights into spirituality and delineated the ways of realising the inner potential.

The Mahasathsang meant to raise the consciousness of the people was of vital significance for the country's economy.

Capability of minds must be fostered to nurture India's prosperity, said Swami Eka.
