MAM College to start a consulting firm
The MAM College of Engineering and Technology at Siruganur recently impressed the Council of Architecture (COA) by presenting its innovative plan for attracting and retaining faculty for its newly started School of Architecture.
Having roped in a handful of practising architects to handle the five-year programme, the college has promised to make them partners in a consulting company it would shortly float.
A team of COA appreciated the college management for its innovative plan, the Principal M.A. Maluk Mohamed told The Hindu.
The College would encourage the faculties to undertake consultancy work and reap maximum benefit. The revenue accruing from consultancy projects would be shared between the partnering teachers and the institution in the ratio of 80:20.
Dr. Maluk said the college would extend its concept further to all other departments and encourage them to start industries.
This approach, he felt, was necessary since teachers in engineering colleges generally feel that they are paid lesser than what they deserve.
Though the sixth pay commission has brought in respectability to the teaching profession in terms of remuneration, the leverage provided to teachers to generate revenue through industrial activities under partnership arrangement would ensure that they remain with the institutions for lengthy durations, he said.
