Foundation for new market to be laid by Chief Minister

The foundation for a new building coming up at Ariyamangalam to accommodate the wholesale section of the Gandhi Market would be laid by Chief Minister M.Karunanidhi during his visit on September 8, Transport Minister K.N.Nehru said on Friday.

About 3.24 acres of land belonging to the Aavin would be acquired by the Tiruchi Corporation for the market. Mr. Karunanidhi would also open the new integrated Collectorate complex and the Tiruchi Taluk office building, both constructed at Rs.12.01 and Rs.1.54 crore respectively, besides inaugurating the components of the Drinking Water Augmentation Scheme and flood prevention projects in the city.

Foundation for new police station buildings at Ramji Nagar and Manachanallur, and a Banana Ripening Chamber would also be laid, Mr. Nehru told reporters. Enter-upon permission has also been obtained for the takeover of the adjacent TANSI land for building a modern auditorium and a government guest house, he said. Mr.Nehru said the IT Park in the city would be inaugurated by the Chief Minister in November. Mr.Karunanidhi would unveil a statue of late Anbil Dharmalingam, former DMK Minister, near the Chathram Bus Stand.
