G R Tech Park getting Ready

The first private industrial park in the central districts, spread over 600 acres at Siruganur on the city outskirts, will become operational by April-May.

In the 100 acres being developed in the first phase, 100 fabrication units will be started on plots of varying sizes. They include a cluster of 30 micro units on a 12-acre plot. Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services Ltd., a catalyser of infrastructure development in the country, is the major stake-holder of the G.K. Industrial Park promoted by industrialist K.G. Muralidharan.

With mentoring support from the Women Entrepreneurs' Association of Tamil Nadu (WEAT) promoted by the Department of Women's Studies, Bharathidasan University; industries; and Micro-Small and Medium Enterprises – Development Institute (MSME-DI), 15 women entrepreneurs will establish fabrication units in the 12-acre micro-industry cluster, Mr. Muralidharan said.

Addressing the valediction of a 45-day training in engineering and fabrication conducted by the Centre for Women's Studies sponsored by the MSME-DI on Thursday, Mr. Muralidharan said the initiative for the private industrial park was taken to win the entire outsourcing orders of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, Tiruchi.

This year, vendors in the region were able to fulfil only 2.5 lakh out of the target of three lakh tonnes. Next year, the target will be four lakh tonnes. There were enormous opportunities in the fabrication business, he said, observing that the BHEL had to divert 25 per cent of its outsourcing to away fabrication centres only because of shortcomings in the capacities of local vendors.

Collector T. Soundiah distributed the training completion certificates to 25 participants in the presence of the Director of the Department of Women's Studies, N. Manimekalai, WEAT president Rani Muralidharan and Deputy Director of MSME-DI N. Srinivasulu.

The Collector said self confidence and courage were primary factors that determined a woman's success in realising economic independence. Prompt repayment of bank loans by self-help groups had raised women's credibility.

Mr. Srinivasulu said ‘EDP (Entrepreneur Development Programme) Online' launched earlier this month by MSME-DI through a tie-up with Everonn for mass outreach would be followed by a series of entrepreneurship promotion programmes planned for telecast through the Pothigai TV.
