Italian firm to set up boiler facility near Tiruchi

In a big boost to domestic power equipment manufacturing capability, AnsaldoCaldaie Boilers India, a 85:15 joint venture between Ansaldo Caldaie of Italy, a leading boiler manufacturer and GB Engineering, boiler component manufacturer, have finalised its plans to set up the proposed new boiler manufacturing unit near Tiruchi, Tamil Nadu.
“Ansaldo is now finally ready to meet the demand for equipment in the Indian power sector and the company is now very much focusing on India,” A Manjunath, managing director, AnsaldoCaldaie Boilers India (P) said. “This new facility will be a complementary to capabilities of our existing facilities. We will soon announce on this and the new boiler manufacturing unit will take about 18-24 months to become operational,” he added.
However, Manjunath declined to provide details but indicated that it would be a couple of hundred crores, which will be met through a combination of promoters’ funds and debt. Gammon India has picked up 50 per cent stake in Ansaldo Caldaie of Italy. The firm is presently executing a few medium-sized contracts. It has the capacity to manufacture boilers up to 300 mw through GB engineering. The new facility is to produce large-sized and super-critical boilers for thermal power projects, especially super-critical boilers of 660 mw range.
