Trichy IT Park operational by Sept 2010

Coimbatore, Sep 8: About 5,400 Common service Centres (CSC) would be opened across Tamil Nadu soon, for the benefit of people, particularly in villages and panchayats, state IT Minister, Poongothai said today.

Already 2,000 such centres were on operationalisation stage in different districts, through which people could book train, bus and air tickets, get birth and death certificates and also pay power and telephone bills, she told reporters.

Depending on the success, the number of services would be increased in a phased manner, she added.

After inaugurating four such centres here and issuing certificates to students, who were trained in Rural IT Finishing School, she said "100 such centres, a Centrally sponsored project and under Public Private Partnership, are ready in Coimbatore district."

On rural BPOs, she said five such centres were opened in Krishnagiri district and the government had planned to open at least one centre in each district.

The IT park in the city would become operational by January next and three such parks, one each in Madurai, Tiruchirapalli and Tirunelveli would be operational by September next, she said.

Referring to availability of students for IT sector, since many were preferring other courses, she said the scenario would change within six months. The state was witnessing 29 per cent growth in IT as against the national growth of 11 per cent, she added. - Agencies
