IGNOU-SET sets up centre in Trichi, offers courses in engineering

With a view to providing degree and diploma courses in engineering to ambitious students, the Indira Gandhi National Open University - School of Engineering and Technology (IGNOU-SET) has set up its centre in Tiruchi district.

The vertically integrated engineering programme - a joint venture by the IGNOU and Sri Angala Parameswari Educational Trust (SAPET), a national co-ordinator for this IGNOU-SAPET project - provides Diploma in Engineering and B.Tech in Engineering courses such as civil, mechanical, electronics and communication engineering, electrical, electronics engineering and computer science engineering.

Students with a pass in SSLC, ITI certificate-holders, Plus Two vocational stream students, polytechnic diploma-holders, science graduates and graduates in computer science or information technology and Bachelor in Computer Application can join these courses. The Samboorna Institute of Engineering and Technology will be an academic partner for the course.

Inaugurating the IGNOU-SAPET centre by issuing the application forms to the candidates, the Executive Director of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, A. V. Krishnan, commended the multiple-entry level and multiple exit level components of the course.

He said that the practical sessions appended to the diploma and engineering courses would enhance the students’ skills.

The Chief Executive Officer, IGNOU-SAPET Programmes Project, M. Subramaniyan, said that the programme facilitated a student to continue the course even after a break. “A candidate getting employed during the study, can break the course for some period and can re-join it. Also, candidates or in-service employees transferred to other towns can continue their study at the other centre. The working hours was on a par with the regular engineering courses,” he said explaining the quality education being imparted.

The Managing Director, GB Engineering Enterprises, B. Pattabhiraman,president of BHEL-Small Industries Association K. G. Muralidharan were among those who offered felicitations.
