Tiruchi-Madurai highway widening to be over by July 2009
National Highways Authority of India is expected to complete the work on four lane roadway projects on the 124 kilometer Tiruchi-Madurai section of National Highway 45 B and the Trichy-Tindivanam section of NH 45 before July 2009 except for a few grade separators and bridges in the urban areas.
A major portion of the work on the Trichy-Virallimalai-Madurai section has been completed. A major chunk of the pending work was in a five km stretch starting from Trichy City to Panchapur which included the construction of a new by-pass road from Mannarpuram.
Construction of the grade separator at Mannarpuram, across the Defence lands, has been started and the by pass road is expected to come up within a three to four months.
The four laning of the highway is expected to reduce travel time on the Trichy-Madurai sector by about an hour.
