Villupuram - Ulunderpet 4 Way opened

Union Minister for Shipping, Road Transport and Highways T.R. Baalu inaugurated the 27-km four-lane on the Villupuram-Ulundurpet section of National Highways 45 on Wednesday.

Mr. Baalu said that the stretch constructed at the cost of Rs. 230 crore included two major bridges of 600-metre and 325-metre span respectively across the Thenpennaiyar and the Gedilam.

Two pedestrian underpasses had also been constructed at Nathamedu and the Gedilam .

Besides this, six minor bridges, 17 pipe culverts and 33 box culverts had been dotting this stretch. Mr. Baalu emphasised the point that only good infrastructure contributed to the economic growth of the country.

The four-laning would facilitate safe and speedy movement of traffic and reduce vehicle operating cost, thereby augmenting transportation facility and riding comfort, he said.

Higher Education Minister K. Ponmudy said that Mr. Baalu was working hard to improve infrastructure which, in turn, helped in economic growth of the region as well as the country.

When he had demanded a subway at Janakipuram, Mr. Baalu readily sanctioned the project for which Mr. Ponmudy expressed his gratitude.

Union Minister of State for Law K.Venkatapathi, MLAs K. Thirunavukkarasu, S. Pushparaj and T. Udayasuryan, and Ulundurpet Town Panchayat president V. Radhakrishnan participated.
