Padalur-Samayapuram 4-Way stretch inaugurated

TIRUCHI: Union Minister of Shipping, Road Transport and Highways T. R. Baalu dedicated the 21-km long segment of the Tindivanam-Tiruchi four-laning project on National Highway 45 at a function held at Samayapuram on Sunday.

Work on the stretch, linking Padalur in Perambalur district and Samayapuram in Tiruchi district, has been executed on an outlay of Rs. 11 crore.

Explaining the salient features of the project, Mr. Baalu said that the Padalur - Samayapuram segment had been upgraded with divided carriageway along with the strengthening of the existing carriageway.

It involved construction of a major bridge across the Uppar river; a minor bridge and 21 culverts. All these have been constructed with carriageway suited for four-lane configuration.

The project involved construction of paved shoulder of 1.5 metre width and one metre wide earthern shoulder. Mr.Baalu said that the four-laning project would bring down the travel time, economy in operation of vehicles and safety.

Mr. Baalu said that infrastructure development works of this nature were being implemented in the State for overall economic development. In all, Tamil Nadu had bagged sanctions to the tune of Rs. 50,594 crore on various fronts -- for shipping, national highways and port development programmes. He attributed this success to the confidence reposed in him by Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi.

Ministers K. N. Nehru and S. Selvaraj and MP L. Ganesan were among those who offered felicitations. They said that the State was poised for rapid economic development through the four-laning project.
