Trichy IT Park Latest Update

TIRUCHI: The Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu (ELCOT) will build 50,000 square feet of office space in each of the Information Technology Parks in the Tier II cities of Tiruchi, Madurai, Salem, Tirunelveli, Salem and Hosur.

Each building will cost about Rs.15 crore. The total built-up space in the two parks in Madurai would be around 1.25 lakh sq.ft, including about 25,000 sq.ft., for the Disaster Recovery Centre. The second IT Park in Chennai would get 10 million sq.ft of office space, said C. Umashankar, Managing Director, ELCOT, speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the inauguration of a computer training centre for government officials here on Friday.

He disclosed that IT majors would get priority in allotment of plots in the Tiruchi IT Park. “The (ELCOT) Board has asked us to not to rush in and accord priority for big companies. A revised allotment proposal would be placed before the Board soon,” he said.

Explaining the rationale behind the move, Mr.Umashankar said smaller and start-up companies may require a longer gestation period, hampering the development of the IT Park itself. It was usual for bigger companies to be accorded priority as anchors. Sutherland Global Services and Cognizant Technology Solutions have already been allotted 10 acres each at the Park.

ELCOT has sought another 120 acres of land for the IT Park in addition to the 165 acres allotted at Navalpattu in the city. “We have planned to acquire lands contiguous to the existing site,” he said. ELCOT would launch a human resources campaign, Empower IT, in Madurai, Tiruchi and Salem between October and December. The two-day campaign in each city was aimed at helping IT companies tap the local human resource potential and giving an exposure to the students.
