CII to setup Small and Medium enterprises in Trichy

Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Southern Region Chairman B V R Mohan Reddy today said imparting skills, improving employability and manpower development would be the development agenda of the CII for the current financial year.

Addressing a press conference here, he said CII was planning to provide pre-employment training to 50,000 school drop-outs across the region in the present year.

Stating that CII would train 5000 youth under its grassroot level skill development initiatives in Andhra Pradesh alone, he said the CII would upgrade 24 Industrial Training Institutes (ITI) in the state to centres of excellence.

To enhance skills and employability, CII would adopt and upgrade 50 ITIs in 2008-09 in addition to about 43 ITIs already adopted by it in the previous year through the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, he said.

He said some of the other long-term initiatives of CII would include developing synergy linkages among manufacturing and engineering services industry, mechanisation of farm practices to enhance farm productivity and promoting rural business hub through farmer-industry partnerships.

Dr Reddy said the CII would launch six new Small and Medium enterprises in Visakhapatnam, Tiruchirapalli, Bangalore, Chennai, Hosur and Kochi during the current year.

He said CII was working in tune with the Andhra Pradesh Vision 2025, aimed at ensuring inclusive and sustainable growth with thrust on universal education, large scale employment generation, world class infrastructure, good governance and enrichment of cultural traditions and values.CIC
