More jobs at Trichy Region

With many industrial units expected to come up in near future in Tiruchi and its nearby areas, there is good scope for the young graduates to get employment in this part of the region, Transport Minister K.N. Nehru said on Saturday.

Presenting degree certificates to engineering graduates at the fourth convocation of the Bharathidasan Institute of Technology here, the Minister said that many industrialists were keen to come to Tiruchi with prices of land shooting up in Chennai and Coimbatore.

The Minister said that of the 5,000 acre on which the Special Economic Zone was to come up in neighbouring Perambalur district, the government had acquired 3,500 acres of land to enable setting up of new industries in the zone.

He added that Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi would lay the foundation for the Information Technology Park at Tiruchi next month.

State Government was keen in creating job opportunities, he said. Adding that agreements had been signed for various industrial projects in Tamil Nadu, he said that 40,000 persons had been recruited in the Transport Department in the last two years alone.

The Vice-Chancellor, Bharathidasan University, M. Ponnavaikko, called upon the new graduates not to stop learning and further broaden their knowledge besides sharpening their skills. He advised the young graduates to work with a goal and put in their best towards achieving it.

Anna University, Tiruchi, Vice-Chancellor V. Ramachandran presided over the function. The Registrar of Bharathidasan University, V. Radhakrishnan, spoke on the occasion. A total number of 205 engineering students were awarded degree certificates on the occasion.
